Like I said before, you can bet your ass I’m going to watch this movie, and yes, I watched it already. I was in full anticipation when I entered the cinema, excited and worried at the same time. Will this movie do justice to Christopher Reeve’s ? Is it good, or crap ?

All I can say is…

Superman Returns, and you bet it.

Okay, what’s the story all about ?

The world’s crises have gone unheeded for five long years since Superman’s mysterious disappearance. Without him, crime has risen in the city of Metropolis and beyond; that’s not even counting the future destructive acts of Lex Luthor, who has been sprung from prison with the specific intent of using Superman’s technological secrets for his own personal gain and glory.

Lois Lane, star reporter for the Daily Planet and the love of Superman’s life, has moved on since Superman left without a word. She has even won a Pulitzer Prize for her essay, “Why the World Doesn’t Need Superman.” Lois has other issues to contend with - she is now engaged to the editor’s nephew and has a young son to look after.

But for Superman, the long search for his place in the universe ends back at the Kent farm, among the only family he has ever known. His destiny lies in Metropolis, where one look in Lois’s eyes tells him that this place, among the flawed but ultimately good people of Earth, is his true home. And with Lex’s plan coming to fruition mere hours after his return, the world will never need Superman more than it does now.

At the beginning, the story was quiet boring, because I thought they will be showing how he became Superman again. Oh, I forgot to tell, 2 days before the movie debuted, I watched the 1st movie again. Guess I was wrong. After they showed Clark return back to Metropolis, thing’s began to spice up. However, I was still waiting for Superman to appear. I waited, and waited and waited…and suddenly there was a power outsourge, and equipments malfunctions, even the airplane which was carrying Lois Lane. The airplane is about to blast off to the space, which has no air. Panic and danger is in the air, and when they showed scene Clark Kent running outside of the shop and open his shirt to reveal the “S” sign, I smiled. Finally, the Man of Steel Returns. I was humming the catchy and memorable Superman Theme by John Williams when Superman appeared.

The movie is just great. It was nice to see the opening credits visual. They still used the same, and of course it was nice and nostalgic to hear familar songs ( Superman’s theme of course. ). The storyline is indeed entertaining, not too mention with some twist and suprises. But hey, it’s not the storyline that everyone is worried about, it’s the actor of Superman that everyone is worried about. Can he carry the Superman character as good as Christopher Reeve’s ? Well, No and Yes. The “No” is for his Clark Kent. In my opinion, he can’t match Christopher Reeve’s version of Clark Kent, who is clumsy and funny. Still, he’s quiet okay as Clark Kent, but I still prefer Reeve’s better. Now, as Superman. Yes, he played his role very well as Superman. Not the best like Reeve’s, but I would say he is the second best person to play as Superman besides Reeve’s ( Dean Cain is the worst, hate him. He totally destoryed Superman’s image ). Every time there was danger scene, I was on the edge of my seat, saying “Come on Superman, hurry up and save the day !” Overall, I’m happy with Brandon Routh being Superman ( Thank God not Nicholas Cage or Brendan Fraser. Imagining them as Superman gives me the creeps… ).

Other characters ? I think the Chief was okay. Boy, I liked Jimmy, he’s funny. Jason is a cute kid. Now…about Lois Lane. I think Kate Bosworth didn’t played her well. Lois was supposed to be a fun character, but in the movie she was all too serious in my opinion. Lex Luthor ( Kevin Spacey ) was too serious, which made me raise an eyebrow, because the Lex I know was funny and witty even though he’s evil. However, no doubt Kevin Spacey can be very evil…

There are things which made me rise my eye brow, not to mention made my jaw drop and scratch my head. Like, Jason is Superman’s son. Suprising and shocking, but logical if you think carefully. In the movie, there are scene’s which prove my statement. When Lex show the kryptonite, Jason show aversion to it. Another scene is when Jason pushed the piano when Lois was attack by Lex thugs. After that, Jason is about to take a breath from his inhaler, but realizes he no longer needs it. Okay okay, there are proofs that he is Superman’s son, but how and when ? Well, if you recall or if you watched the second movie of Superman, Superman temporary became human after Lois Lane discovered his identity. Yeah, they were in love, and they slept together. I’m thinking that was the reason why Jason is Superman’s son, and in my opinion, it’s the only logical reason. Second thing is the Crystal’s. Since Kitty dropped them when Superman lift of the island, meaning the crystal’s are gone, since Superman throw the island away in space. It was quiet funny seeing how the doctors try to help Superman, like the needles broke whenever they tried to poke it on his arm. Lex still has a bit piece of the kryptonite, so I guess we will definitely see a sequel, which I don’t mind.

Bottomline ? Don’t worry, this movie is great, and Brandon Routh is indeed the new Man of Steel. Superman indeed returns.
